ART ELEMENTS BLOG HOP SEPTEMBER THEME: FOLIAGE

This is my initially time collaborating in an Art Things Blog site Hop.  I was intrigued by the concept of foliage since that has been my theme for most of the a long time I have been generating ceramic beads.  I ordinarily make a mold from plants and use it as the basis for pendants, toggle clasps and cabochons.  I always hand paint on the coloured glazes and nearly in no way use underglazes. The photo over is a sample of pendants in my typical way of building.

For some time I have been pondering about other ways of creating leaves and bouquets.  I have a assortment of dried leaves that have fallen off a rubber plant I have in the residence. I love their swish move and lyrical strains and sort.

 I made a decision I preferred to hand create my leaves and flowers. These leaves (pictured above) and some Victorian botanical drawings have been my inspiration.  I minimal my equipment to making use of an orange wood cuticle stick for makings the markings  on the leaves. My clay human body was a white stoneware clay which I fire to cone 5 (a bit higher than 2100 degrees F.)  I commenced small but as time went on my leaves bought bigger and larger.

When it arrived to glazing what I produced I was a little bit stymied at initial.  I decided to try out some underglazes which I really don’t ordinarily like simply because they are so stiff.  But I desired all individuals markings to demonstrate up by the other glazes I applied.  So I tried out out a black and a blue.  I was not not happy with the result.
