Initial of all, wow! Exactly where has summer long gone? How can it possibly be September now???
This is only likely to be a shorter website, but I just desired to share a small restore career that I have been working on today. The shopper to begin with despatched me an e mail a handful of months ago, as she’d been advised by a substantial avenue jeweller that her sentimental gold costume ring, wasn’t in a position to be resized. Que that very little evil little bit in my brain that just needs to confirm them improper and show that it IS possible, and voila! One particular resized garnet and pearl dress ring. Yes, it IS a sensitive ring, so she’s not heading to be ready to dress in it each and every working day, but at the very least it now CAN be worn, alternatively than getting destined to sit in a box permanently!
The ring in query – so wonderful!
It is 9ct gold, established with garnets and pearls and is pretty sensitive, but undoubtedly not over and above repair service. It is a “dress ring” and will in no way have been meant to be worn all of the time.

The ring shank has some fragile engraving all about it, and since it is a really smaller ring, the hallmark took up most of the readily available room, so I had to choose where to make the slash quite thoroughly.

It’s all thanks to my Dado laser welder right here. It meant that I could incorporate in a new portion of gold and “weld” it in position without having jeopardizing heating (and ruining!) the pearls.
Cleansing up
When the new piece of gold was welded, it was just a situation of very carefully cleaning up the joins.
Not forgetting the inside of.
The newer gold alloy was a slightly distinct colour, but it’ll all mix in with a polish.
Prepared to put on!
Certainly, you can see the join if you glance carefully, but at times it’s not all about entirely hiding the new element. This ring was about preservation and building it wearable once more.
Polished and ready for numerous a lot more several years!
A “very” careful polish so as not to injury those people delicate pearls, or to get rid of to significantly of the character. In my viewpoint, it is right for an antique to glance as this kind of!
